When I first went digital (photography that is) and learned some Photoshop, I did two things a lot. One of which was to play in black and white. It was very freeing compared to darkroom work where I’d have to pick the film and the filters when I was out taking the photos. In the darkroom, I had to decide how to develop the film, pick the paper for the result I was looking for, decide on some filters for the enlarger, then decide what to dodge/burn etc. A whole night might be spent making 4 or 5 prints, none of which quite met my vision. These days I don’t do anywhere near as much black & white work as I should. Especially since the capabilities in Lightroom and Photoshop make it fast, fun, and a lot less stinky, to get to a vision….or two. Here is a photo from over 10 years ago taken in my early digital days. I ran across it today and decided, as colorful as it is…it could really be cool in black and white. Less than 10 minutes later I arrived at this.
