I’m 53. You would think I’d know everything I’m going to know at this point. But, every single day I learn something new and I love it. Whether it’s about neuroscience (my favorite genre of non-fiction), or Facebook friend lists and other social media stuff, or nutrition, or new uses for old products, or just how far my credit card will strettttccchhhh, I am ready and willing to add it to my brain bank.
Do you have oh so many friends on facebook that it feels like you are not only drowning in posts and information, but you’re missing out on the posts of the people you are closest to? I felt that way but I didn’t really know what to do to solve the problem. Then, while listening to a live in a training group I’m a part of, I got a full tutorial on Friend Lists and I went straight over to Facebook to fix mine before I forgot!
Since then, I’ve had a few requests asking how to manage these lists and after duplicating my messages a few times I thought I should just write it down in one place! This information below is for someone who, like me a few days ago, has no idea what Friend Lists are and how to make them work for you.
Facebook Home Screen
These instructions pertain to a laptop view. From your Facebook Home Page, look to the left and find where it says Friend Lists. Click on “Friend Lists.” If you do not see that option under Explore, click on “See More…”
Here you see a list of all the Friend Lists you have created as well as the ones that are native to Facebook. Click on “+ Create List.”
Create New Friend Lists
This is the next box you see. You will have to add at least one member in order to create the list. You can go back and add many more later.
Next head over to your Personal Profile page.
List of Friends
Now you see your entire list of friends. Click to the right of their name and it allows you to choose a list (or lists) to put them under.
How to Use Your Friend Lists
You certainly didn’t go through all this trouble for nothing! Next you need to know how to view posts only from a particular friend list as well as how to share a post to only a particular friend list.
View Posts From a Particular Group of Friends
If you’d like to solely catch up with friends on your “Cat Knitting List” or “Lovers of Pizza Hut” list, you can make your feed solely devote itself to them! Follow the images below in order. Click first on Friend Lists and then on the list you’d like to view.
Post To a Particular Friend List
To have Facebook only show your post to a particular list of friends – follow the steps below:
That is everything I know about Friend Lists. I hope you find this helpful and I’d love you to drop a comment if you do!
