How I Became a Norwex Consultant

February 20, 2018. That’s the date. Before that date if you had asked me what the chances were that I would go into Direct Sales, let alone love Direct Sales, I would not have even deigned to answer. There was absolutely no part of me that thought that I would a) be interested b) be any good at it or c) be interested! It’s not like my life wasn’t already bursting at the seams. I had 2, about to be 3, grandchildren that I took care of about 40 hours a week. I was in the middle of what turned out to be a 6 month remodeling event at my 100+ year old house. I had an attic full of 30+ years of world traveling, yet to be unpacked. Combine that with volunteering, family, friends, trying to learn the harp and watching reruns of The West Wing and my life was completely full. There was no way I had time to become a Norwex Consultant.

Norwex Improving Quality of Life

I was in the middle of “attending” a Norwex Facebook party being hosted by a friend of mine. I don’t know if it was the charisma of the Consultant running the party (and yes, she’s amazing and I’m lucky to be mentored by her) or my sheer wonder at how many Norwex products I wanted personally (that never seems to end) or my conviction that this was something I could do. Share with other people what an actual difference Norwex could make in their lives. I wanted to be green, although imperfectly. I wanted my home to be a safe place for my grandchildren, as hard as that is to actually accomplish. I wanted to do something tangible to express my belief that we are responsible for our actions and can find real ways to stop being part of the problem that is waste disposal in our country. Whatever it was, I laid down in bed that night and told my husband “I’m going to be a Norwex consultant.” Not sure who was more surprised!

Starting Out

The first few days were a little rocky, full of lots of “what the heck did I do” and excitement at my Consultant Kit being on its way. I had my launch party, where my incredibly supportive friends shopped and participated and made me feel like “I can do this!” I learned very quickly that not every party would be full of friends who just wanted to see me succeed. There’s this weird feeling when you are representing a product that you love and believe in. You want to shout it to every single person you know “You have to try this!” Not only do they have to try it, but they have to be as gung-ho as I am to get rid of the toxic chemicals in their homes. I was amazed at how quickly I went from never having heard of Norwex to cringing whenever I saw someone – in person or in photos – using toxic chemical-laden sprays to “clean” their homes. See what I did there? Putting “clean” in quotes? That wasn’t planned – that is merely reflective of how completely I believe that those products were not cleaning my home – they were depositing a lot of residue and little else.

My journey in these few months since I became a Norwex Consultant has been very much a few steps forward…wait…pause…look around…a few more steps forward… It is hard to be in sales when you “don’t want to be in sales.” But the truth is, I love what I’m doing. I am excited every time I get a chance to talk about Norwex with someone new. When someone tries one of our products and messages me “OMG, I can’t believe how well this works. I was so skeptical.” Makes me smile. And after all, why wouldn’t I want more smiles?
